My background is in architecture by way of biology, but in clay for the first time, I feel I've found my life's work. All of my pieces are hand built in stoneware, and my practice centers on increasingly large scale forms and blocky surface texture with brutalist roots. I'm also increasingly pulled toward 'imperfection', less refinement, a sensibility of the visual interest around both wonkiness and legible craft. What is often most compelling to me are the marks and textures left behind by the process of working with clay, the artifacts of the process - physical registrations of the high touch reality of its creation that are intrinsic to each piece.
